Charlie Sandor
Charlie Sandor is an Investment Partner at CMT Digital. Charlie joined CMT Digital at the launch of Fund II in April of 2021 to focus on venture investments. Charlie started his career at Bain & Company, where he spent time on large-scale transformations and in the Private Equity Group. He graduated from Harvard University with an A.B. in Economics.
Scott Casto
Scott Casto is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of the CMT Group. Scott has over 30 years of experience trading equity and fixed income derivatives, and investing across private equity, venture capital and hedge funds. The first decade of his career was spent trading and market making on both U.S. and European exchanges with Chicago Research and Trading Group (CRT). While at CRT, Scott was instrumental in the construction of the electronic European trading business. In 1997, Scott and Jan-Dirk Lueders established the CMT Group, a global electronic trading firm focused on developing cutting edge, low-latency electronic trading technologies. In addition to the trading business, the CMT Group has evolved into a diversified investment firm, with a portfolio that spans public and private equity, debt, real estate, technology, and digital assets. In 2015, Scott and Jan-Dirk founded CMT Digital, a division of the CMT group that focuses on crypto asset trading, blockchain technology investments, and legal/policy engagement in the crypto asset and blockchain ecosystem. Scott’s experience as a trader, investor, entrepreneur, and leader has resulted in the success of numerous businesses.
Sam Hallene
Sam Hallene is an Investment Partner at CMT Digital. Sam joined the CMT Digital venture group at its inception in 2017 and focuses on thesis formation, manages portfolio composition, sources investment opportunities, conducts due diligence, and assists with investor relations. Previously, Sam worked at Prairie Capital, a Chicago-based middle market private equity firm, and Promus Capital, a Chicago-based multi-asset class wealth manager. Sam graduated from the University of Michigan with majors in Economics and Spanish.
Augustus (Augie) I.
Augie Ilag is Partner and Head of Asia at CMT Digital. He has eight years of venture capital and management consulting experience, focusing on early-stage investments in cryptocurrencies, digital infrastructure, and Web 3. Additionally, he has extensive experience in the Web 2 space, including FinTech, SaaS, and Consumer Tech. He was an investor at Sequoia Capital India and Southeast Asia, responsible for cryptocurrency and blockchain investments in the region. Prior to joining Sequoia Capital, Augie worked at McKinsey & Company (in offices in Manila, Philippines and Bogota, Colombia), where he advised emerging market clients on operations, marketing, sales, organizational design, and strategy. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Stanford University and was named to the 2022 Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
