Ethereum Foundation donates an additional $500,000 to support Roman Storm's legal defense

ChianCatcher news, the Ethereum Foundation announced an additional donation of $500,000 to support the legal defense of Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm, and pledged to match community donations, up to an additional $500,000. Previously, the foundation had donated $500,000 in June 2025 and matched $750,000 in community donations to support Storm in facing the upcoming trial in New York.
Storm is facing charges related to alleged conspiracy to launder money, operating an unregistered money transmission business, and violating U.S. sanctions. The foundation emphasized, "Privacy is normal, writing code is not a crime." Storm's legal team aims to raise $2 million for defense funds and has currently raised approximately $722,000. Storm's trial is scheduled for September 2025, and his case is seen as a significant test for the rights of decentralized finance (DeFi) and open-source developers.
