ChainCatcher news, according to Bloomberg, informed sources say that the Hong Kong government has commissioned banks to prepare for a potential digital bond issuance. Previously, Shenzhen Futian Investment Holdings and Shankou Holdings had completed the pricing of digital bonds in Hong Kong. Bloomberg statistics show that, apart from government issuances, Hong Kong has launched at least 6 corporate digital bonds, raising a total of approximately 1 billion USD.
HSBC and King & Wood Mallesons stated that the willingness of enterprises from the mainland and other regions to issue bonds is increasing. Digital bonds utilize blockchain (DLT/public chain) in the issuance, trading, and settlement processes, which is expected to shorten settlement times and reduce costs; the relevant support program launched in Hong Kong at the end of last year is also promoting the growth of such issuances.
