ChainCatcher news, according to Fortune magazine, the amended complaint submitted by the class action law firm Greenbaum Olbrantz on Tuesday shows that Ashita Mishra, a former employee of the outsourcing company TaskUs and the core suspect in the Coinbase data breach, stored sensitive information of over 10,000 customers on his phone.
Since September 2024, he systematically stole confidential data such as customers' social security numbers and bank account information, selling each screenshot for $200 to hacker organizations. Mishra and his accomplices formed a "precision concentric conspiracy network" in India, taking 200 screenshots of customer accounts daily, affecting 69,000 users. Hackers used this to defraud users of their cryptocurrency, with losses reaching as high as $400 million.
TaskUs recently accused Coinbase internal employees of being involved in the leak, but provided no specific evidence. A Coinbase spokesperson stated that they have terminated their partnership with TaskUs, strengthened oversight, and fully compensated users, and previously set up a $20 million reward fund to track down the criminals. TaskUs stated that they are continuously strengthening security protocols and training but did not comment on the complaint.
