Hong Kong Monetary Authority Assistant Director: The third batch of tokenized bonds by the Hong Kong government may connect to CBDC subscriptions

ChainCatcher news, the Assistant Chief Executive (External Affairs) of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Xu Huai-zhi, disclosed data indicating that the Hong Kong SAR government has issued bonds totaling approximately HKD 386 billion since 2019 through the "Government Green Bond Programme" and the "Infrastructure Bond Programme," including two successful issuances of tokenized green bonds, with sizes of USD 100 million and USD 750 million, respectively.
The third batch of tokenized bonds assisted by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority for the government will not only focus on asset-side tokenization but will also consider implementing fund-side tokenization. Given that the development of fund-side tokenization in Hong Kong is early and most mature with Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), there is a possibility that the fund-side of this batch of tokenized bonds will connect to CBDC subscriptions.
