According to the official account of the Central Cyberspace Administration's Reporting Center, by 2025, 1,418 counterfeit and fraudulent website platforms have been legally processed, including 61 websites impersonating financial institutions such as China Merchants Securities and CITIC Bank. These sites lure internet users into downloading apps to engage in stock trading or purchasing so-called "stablecoins" and other financial products, resulting in financial losses.
The Central Cyberspace Administration's Reporting Center pointed out that counterfeit and fraudulent websites often illegally collect personal information from internet users under the guise of "receiving subsidies," "recharging consumption," "business cooperation," and "investment and financial management," committing fraud and infringing on the legitimate rights and property safety of the public, posing significant social harm.
