Last week, the Bitcoin Core development team added a trust key maintainer for the first time in three years. The developer, known as TheCharlatan, became the sixth key holder with main branch commit access, joining Marco Falke, Gloria Zhao, Ryan Ofsky, Hennadii Stepanov, and Ava Chow. At least 20 members of the GitHub developer community agreed to his promotion, with no objections.

The nomination comments described him as a reliable reviewer, with extensive work in critical areas of the codebase, thoughtfully considering the needs of users and developers, and well-versed in the technical consensus process. TheCharlatan graduated from the University of Zurich's Computer Science department, focusing on reproducible builds and Bitcoin Core validation logic. Since Bitcoin's inception in 2009, key control has evolved from a single individual, Satoshi Nakamoto, to the current decentralized management model of six individuals.
