According to Reuters, Nvidia announced that it has invested $2 billion in AI infrastructure provider CoreWeave, becoming its second-largest shareholder to accelerate the collaboration on data center construction in the United States.
The investment was made at a price of $87.2 per share, which will increase Nvidia's shareholding by approximately 23 million shares, significantly raising its ownership stake. CoreWeave stated that the funds will be used to expedite land and power procurement, research and development, and team expansion, rather than for purchasing Nvidia processors.
The company's goal is to build over 5 gigawatts of AI data center capacity by 2030. CoreWeave originally started as a cryptocurrency mining company and has now transformed into a "new cloud" service provider renting Nvidia GPUs to tech and AI companies.
