OpenClaw (formerly Clawdbot) founder Peter Steinberger revealed that he has received acquisition offers from Meta and OpenAI, but insists that he will only consider a deal if the project remains open source.
This self-modifying AI assistant quickly gained 180,000 stars on GitHub, becoming an important open-source AI agent platform. Despite the project losing $10,000 to $20,000 per month and nearly being abandoned due to trademark issues and attacks from cryptocurrency scammers, Steinberger remains committed to his open-source philosophy. He predicts that OpenClaw-style AI agents will replace 80% of existing applications and has discussed potential collaboration with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
